The City of Portsmouth applied to the Ohio Development Services Agency/Office of Community Development for funding under the 2021 CDBG Community Development Allocation Program. The City is eligible for $150,000 under the Allocation Program.
On May 18, 2021, the City conducted the first public hearing to inform citizens about this grant program, how it may be used, what activities are eligible, and other program requirements. Based on both citizen input and local officials’ assessment of the City’s needs, the City is proposing to undertake the following activities for the Allocation Program:
- $120,000 will be used for construction of a community pavilion on Market Street. (this project qualifies under the National Objective: Area Benefit to Low-to-Moderate Income Persons)
- $30,000 will be used for administration and implementation of the projects, as well as the required Fair Housing program.
As an alternate project in the event that the above project is not approved, the city has chosen infrastructure improvements for Riverfront upgrades. (this project qualifies under the National Objective: Area Benefit to Low-to-Moderate Income Persons)
The second public hearing will be held on June 9, at 2:30 p.m., The meeting will be conducted via Zoom and can be accessed through the City of Portsmouth’s website at http://www.portsmouthoh.org/ to give citizens the opportunity to review and comment on The City of Portsmouth’s proposed activities.By Order of the City Manager City of Portsmouth
