Portsmouth will host both 2021 Regional and Ohio Senior Olympics (OSO Track & Field) Participants choosing to compete in the OSO Track & Field must register with OSO. Athletes who seek qualification for the 2022 National Senior Games in Fort Laurderdale, Florida must register for the event with OSO Participants choosing to compete in the Southern Ohio Senior Games Track & Field events must register with SOSG Participants may choose to participate in both OSO and SOSG but may not participate in the same event. Both registrations must be completed and the participant is subject to both fees. This hearing is to review the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) that was passed by City Council on August 24, 2020 and to provide businesses and citizens an opportunity to present comments or concerns regarding the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.

The City of Portsmouth applied to the Ohio Development Services Agency/Office of Community Development for funding under the 2021 CDBG Community Development Allocation Program. The City is eligible for $150,000 under the Allocation Program. On May 18, 2021, the City conducted the first public hearing to inform citizens about this grant program, how it may be used, what activities are eligible, and other program requirements. Based on both citizen input and local officials’ assessment of the City’s needs, the City is proposing to undertake the following activities for the Allocation Program: $120,000 will be used for construction of a community pavilion on Market Street. (this project qualifies under the National Objective: Area Benefit to Low-to-Moderate Income Persons) $30,000 will be used for administration and implementation of the projects, as well as the required Fair Housing program. As an alternate project in the event that the above project is not approved, the city has chosen infrastructure improvements for Riverfront upgrades.
